Accessories to complete your Drill Packages
Besides a complete selection of subs and pup joints, Command Tubular supplies a full range of drilling accessories, from drill pipe screens and safety clamps to thread protectors and floats. Our experienced team can quickly supply whatever your drilling project requires. Most API and Command proprietary subs are in stock, ready to ship from Nisku (Canada), Houston (USA) or Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire (France).
Pup Joints
Pup joints adjust the overall length of the drill string so it lands at a specific depth and positions the tool joints at the rig floor (or top drive) as needed.
Command Tubular pup joints are either manufactured from the highest quality API seamless tubing, to the latest edition of API Spec 5CT, or machined from integral bars of chromium molybdenum alloy steel. Pup joints with a tool joint OD below 6 7/8” have a minimum yield strength of 110 ksi; those 6 7/8” and larger, 100 ksi. Lengths from 2 to 25 feet are available; standard lengths are 5, 10, 15 and 20 feet. Additional sizes are available upon request and can be ordered to match standard drill pipe dimensions.
Note: Drill Collar Grade Pup Joints are not suitable for H2S service.

Thread Protectors
Thread Protectors
When choosing a thread protector, start with the drill collar OD range and the connection size and type. Command Tubular offers cast steel protectors with lifting bails, pressed-steel protectors and heavy-duty plastic protectors.
Thread protectors should always be fitted to both the pin and the box when drill stem components are shipped or stored, at the warehouse or on location. Three types are available:

Thread protectors should always be fitted to both the pin and the box when drill stem components are shipped or stored, at the warehouse or on location. Three types are available:
- Cast Steel, with lifting bail, are made from steel casting that meet ASTM specification A27 Grade 60 – 30 (60,000 psi tensile – 30,000 psi yield) and are equipped with heavy-duty bails suitable for picking up and laying down a drill collar with a cat line. Threads and shoulders are precision machined.
- Pressed-Steel light-duty protectors are suitable for shipping and storing threaded drill stem components only.
- Plastic light duty protectors are suitable for shipping and storing threaded drill stem components only.
