Connections

Command Tubular is a manufacturer of Standard API Connections and provides American Petroleum Institute (API) certified connections in a variety of pipe lengths, diameters and steel grades.

In addition to industry API tool joint connections, Command Tubular offers its advanced CET™ and CDS™ proprietary high torque double shoulder connections when higher torque is needed.

Command Tubular’s CET™ and CDS™ connections offers technically advanced solutions for even the most demanding drilling conditions. Command Tubular supports all of its connections around the world by providing quality support, local licensees for repair and accessory manufacturing.

API

Command Tubular is a manufacturer of Standard API Connections and provides American Petroleum Institute (API) certified connections in a variety of pipe lengths, diameters and steel grades licensed for:

API Specifications

  • 5DP (ISO 11961:2008)
  • 7-1 and 7-2 (ISO 10424-1:2004 and ISO 10424-2:2007)
  • NS-1

In addition to industry API tool joint connections, Command Tubular offers its advanced CET™ and CDS™ connections when higher torque is needed.

CET™

Applications

  • Best in class performance and optimized operational characteristics required of high torque connections to drill the well designs of today
  • Available on all sizes of drill pipe, heavy-weight drill pipe and collars for use on work strings, slimhole drillstrings and frac strings

Features and Benefits:

  • 5 ¼ turns to make-up is the fastest of any high torque connection
  • 170% – 200% of the torsional strength of API connections
  • Provides increased torque with the addition of an optimized secondary torque shoulder
  • Available in 2 3/8 – 7 5/8” sizes
  • Reduces the amount of repairs required to less than 1% per well drilled
  • Cuts rig NPT during tripping operations by 50% over competitive high torque connections
  • A smooth ID through the connection, which can be made with smaller OD’s and larger ID’s than standard connections while maintaining higher torque capacities

CDS™

Applications

  • Torque advantage over API and runs easier than the competition, providing the optimum solution to reach total depth as fast as possible.
  • Available drill pipe, heavy-weight drill pipe and collars in all sizes from 2 3/8”-12”.drillstrings and frac strings.

Features and Benefits:

  • Fully Interchangeable with API and some DS connections
  • NS-1 approved rotary shoulder connection
  • Provides increased torque with the addition of an optimized secondary torque shoulder
  • A smooth ID through the connection, which can be made with smaller OD’s and larger ID’s than standard connections while maintaining higher torque capacities
  • Extended by being able to wear to a smaller OD while maintaining a torsional capacity greater than 80% of the drill pipe tube
  • The CDS™ connection can be made up with API numbered connections and some other available double shoulder connections.

Increased Wear Resistance:

  • The CDS™ connections life is extended by being able to wear to a smaller OD while maintaining a torsional capacity greater than 80% of the drill pipe tube.
  • The minimum OD varies with what grade and weight the drill pipe is. As an example a 4” G105 15.7 lbs/ft drill pipe with 5 ¼” x 2 7/16” NC40 connections has a premium class minimum OD of 5”.
  • The same drill pipe with a CDS™40 connection will have a premium minimum OD of 4 3/4”.
